KEY INDUSTRY COALITION

In 2019, KARL LAGERFELD was proud to be one of the first signatories to join The Fashion Pact, a global coalition of companies in the fashion and textile industry with the goal of contributing to a nature-positive, net-zero future for the fashion industry.

With this, KARL LAGERFELD committed to setting quantitative and time-bound targets within three core areas: mitigating climate change, restoring biodiversity and protecting the oceans and fresh waters from negative industrial impacts.

In 2022, KARL LAGERFELD joined Cascale (formerly the “Sustainable Apparel Coalition”). KARL LAGERFELD uses Cascale’s Higg Index suite of measurement tools to track and improve its own impact — plus the impact of its supply chain partners — on the planet and people involved in its processes.

SUPPLIER RELATIONS

KARL LAGERFELD’s suppliers play an instrumental role in the successful minimization of the brand’s impact on people and the planet. To create and uphold a responsible supply chain, new and existing suppliers are assessed on certain key environmental and social indicators. All Tier One suppliers are reviewed by the sustainability team to ensure their commitment to social and environmental standards.

TRACEABILITY

In 2023, KARL LAGERFELD began its product traceability by leveraging block-chain technology. It gives KARL LAGERFELD better insight into its supply chain — from material sourcing to retail — as each supplier uploads product data, pictures and certificates into the app. By 2025, the brand aims to communicate this information externally through a dedicated QR code linked to a future product passport,, which will show customers a specific product’s journey.

TRANSPARENCY

Transparency is essential to improve social circumstances and environmental impact in the fashion supply chain. KARL LAGERFELD leverages the Open Supply Hub platform, an organization that shares social chain data freely and makes it accessible to the public. Open-licensed data leads to more sustainable and equitable outcomes for vulnerable communities affected by the fashion industry. KARL LAGERFELD published its Tier One suppliers list for the first time in March 2023.
